Armed men attacked a Canadian mining firm convoy in Burkina Faso as a result 37 people reportedly killed, authorities have informed. More than 60 people also sustained injuries in the assault that took place about 40km from Boungou.

According to initial reports, the staff of Semafo was traveling on five buses when an explosive device hit the military escort vehicle. Afterward, gunmen opened fire on the passengers that triggered several fatalities and injuries. The mining firm convoy attack is the third deadliest attack on the firm’s staff in fifteen months.
Islamist insurgency has wreak havoc in the area in the past few years killing more than hundreds of people. The military has tried hard to control the chaos that spilled over from adjacent Mali. Last year, Semafo has tightened its security in the area after the assaults on its two mines. The recent incident took place on a road to the way of its mine in Boungou.
Semafo has sent its heartiest condolences to the families of sufferers. The firm also said that it is actively working to ensure the safety of its employees.
