Sudan’s first research satellite to explore the military, economic and space technology fields have been launched in cooperation with China. Sudan’s General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan made this known during a meeting between top security officials in the capital city of Sudan.
Sudan’s sovereign council detailed about the launching that aims to develop space exploration. Sudan also launched the research satellite to acquire natural resources data to fulfill the requirement of its military and civilians. According to the Xinhua news agency, SRSS-1 lifted off from Shanxi, China on Sunday.
A spokesperson, Mohamed al-Faki explained that Sudan will soon start monitoring the satellite from its land. Mohamed al-Faki further said that China made the launch because it has worked as a partner in the space project.
Sudan space program has decades stretched history of its national space program including remote sensing and geo-informatics though currently, it is combating with the economic crisis. President Omar al-Bashir officially set up the Institute of Space Research and Aerospace in 2013.
