Militants attack on a military post in the northeast of Mali has left at least 53 soldiers dead. The recent assault can consider as one of the deadliest attacks in the decades. One civilian also reportedly lost his life in the deadly attack that occurred in the place located near the border area with Niger.
The country’s army has called it a terrorist activity as violence erupted in Mali since 2012 after Islamist militants arrival. Mali’s army has reoccupied the territory with aid of France but chaos and insecurity didn’t end. Instead, the violence further spread to other parts of the region. Rescue teams have sent to the affected site as 10 people survived in the attack although significant material damage recorded. Mali communication minister said that they have controlled the situation and the identification process of the victims has started.
No group has accepted the responsibility of the militants attack on a military post in the Menaka region. Earlier, 38 soldiers killed after militants attacked two military camps near the borderline with Burkina Faso around a month ago. Mali, Chad, Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mauritania suspected the involvement of Ansarul Islam in the attack.
