The casualties figure from Cameroon landslide has now risen to 42 people including up to two dozen kids and 4 pregnant women. The rescue teams searched the rubble of ruined houses, after heavy rains hit Bafoussam town at western highlands, to find the victims and survivors.
A source has confirmed that 26 children’s dead bodies recovered from the debris. According to territorial administration minister, Paul Atanga Nji, 4 pregnant women also died in the calamity. The death toll touches the 37 figure initially on Tuesday but the search for more survivors/victims continued under the debris.
A survivor told that he saw a big cloud of dust and when it vanished then he noticed that the mountain had fallen. Cameroonian President, Paul Biya has expressed deep sorrows over the precious loss of lives. He addressed his sincere condolences to the Cameroon landslide victims’ families.
Authorities have requested the local population to vacate the area amid the fear of more landslide as downpour still continued. Heavy rains and floods have displaced thousands of people all across Africa.
