The milestone has been accomplished regarding the eradication of polio. The expert announced that the second type of disease is whipped out from the map of the world. Scientifically there are three types of polio-virus. World Health Organization announced that out of four, three types of polio has been exterminated.
Unfortunately, 1 type is still found in underdeveloped countries Pakistan and Afghanistan. Read World Health Organization report as following:
“Polio usually affects children under five. The WHO estimates one in 200 cases leads to irreversible paralysis. Death can occur when breathing muscles are affected by paralysis. There is no cure but the disease vaccine protects children for life. Cases of wild polio have fallen by 99% since 1988. The declaration type 2 had been wiped out was made in 2015, a full 16 years after the last case was seen in India. ‘Not finished.”
Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, Global Commission for the Certification of Poliomyelitis Eradication stated that they cannot sit and relax until the world is declared polio-free.
“Countries must strengthen routine immunization to protect communities, ramp up routine surveillance so that we can detect even the slightest risk of polio re-emerging and ensure the timeliness and quality of outbreak response if a case is detected.”
