Essex Police has taken a lorry driver into their custody after founding the dead bodies of 39 people in a shipping container in the east of London. Bulgarian registered vehicle discovered at Grays’ Waterglade Industrial Park. Meanwhile, police forces have shifted the lorry to a secure position to recover all the bodies.
The suspected lorry driver has identified as Mo Robinson who belongs to Northern Ireland. Essex Police reported that the trailer reached through a ferry from Belgium into Purfleet on Thames River which docked in the Thurrock. Later, the lorry with the shipping container left the port.
According to Deputy Chief Constable, Pippa Mills, identification of the victims is going to be a lengthy process. The trained officers from the National Crime Agency also reached there to find the involvement of any crime group behind the horrendous act. A spokesperson further informed that the container seems like a refrigerated unit that has low temperature as -25C.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson called it an unimaginable tragedy and truly heartbreaking incident. He further said that Essex Police and Home Office teamed up to know the cause behind the tragedy. UK police have confirmed that 8 out of 39 deceased are females while the remaining 31 are men. They believed that all of the deceased belong to China.
