Ghanaian well-known songstress, Fantana is under major public backlash for showing her sanitary pad at the just-finished Shatta Wale’s ‘Reign Concert’. The songstress was performing live on the stage, wearing a short frock which was definitely not enough to hide her sanitary pad.
Ghanaians went in an utmost shock that they couldn’t resist going to social media and expressing about how disappointed they are over the incident. A lot of videos also went viral featuring Fanatana performing and all of a sudden showing her pad to the world while on stage. The whole situation got escalated within a few hours of the incident that the songstress had to come forward and defend her.
While talking about the incident and people’s reaction, Fantana said, “Despite a lot of awareness going on and efforts by the UNDP to end this discrimination and abuse against young girls and women I was surprised to see some bloggers and a section of the media high light and body shame me because I refused to let my menses stop me from performing when I felt it coming 30 minutes before I went on stage last Saturday at the fantasy dome.”
“Regardless of my costume being transparent, my only option was to put on a sanitary pad and still go-ahead to perform. I am a woman and I’m not ashamed of menstruating.”
