Ghanaians are quite in a shock after seeing an exclusive documentary titled ‘Sex for Grades’ made by BBC Africa. The documentary was initially aired on October 7th, 2019 and it has been getting the massive hype ever since.
The documentary ‘Sex for Grades’ is basically about the trend of asking the students for sex if they want to get good grades. No doubt, it’s a global trend which is quite common all over the world. However, the percentage of this trend was recorded high in Africa to which BBC Africa took a stand and highlighted the issue. For the documentary, BBC Africa sent in two undercover agents with the core purpose to observe the trend in the universities silently. The hidden cameras were also installed in order to capture the whole documentary. The agents visited the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and the University of Ghana, Ghana. To Ghanaians’ surprise, two of the renowned professors of the University of Ghana were caught asking the students for sex for grades.
According to Ghana Entertainment News, the ‘Sex for Grades’ documentary has taken the internet and media by storm in Ghana as Ghanaian celebrities are adding their words in order to give the matter a well-deserving hype. Hashtag SexForGrades is on top trending ever since the documentary is released. Ghanaian celebrities including Lydia Forson, Yvonne Nelson, Sarkodie, Gifty Anti and others have opposed the trend of ‘Sex for Grades’ by taking to their official social media handles. Lydia Forson has also slammed the religious bodies of Ghana to not speaking a word against the trend, unlike other issues.
However, Ghanaian internationally acclaimed TV personality, Gifty Anti has broken all the records by her mind-blowing post about the issue titled ‘A CALL FOR CURE NOW’. She talked about the issue in detail by revealing various hidden aspects of the trend as well. The post says,
“A CALL FOR CURE NOW
By Oheneyere Gifty Anti.
In fact, we have long gone pass the period of Naming and Shaming.
And I am glad, some are boldly doing it now.
Sex for Grades in Tertiary institutions and you are shocked? Are you kidding me?
My dear, it is happening in primary, JHS, and SHS. It started long ago and when we talked about it we were told we are ‘demonizing’ teachers and lecturers.
Listen, there are very good teachers/lecturers and I have male and female tutors who give me information all the time, about what is going on.
I am tempted to post the recent one about some teachers in a school in the Brong/Ahafo area who actually ‘share’ the Primary 6 girls before they get to JHS 1. So by the time they get there, the teachers know ‘who belongs to who’. Such nonsense. Such evil.
And oh by the way, it’s not only male teachers who demand sex for grades. Some female teachers do the same. And the victims of such demonic people in authority are both male and female.
So yes, some male and female teachers and lecturers and ‘bosses’ are demanding sex from both males and females.
We are in trouble because we have given too much power to teachers and lecturers to determine the destiny of our young ones.
We base potential success in life on what grades you get while in school. So some of these tutors hold our young one’s hostage.
Our country is sick and we need to find a cure, RIGHT NOW.”
