The Communications Minister of Ghana, Mrs Ursula Owusu Ekuful has recently announced a very benefiting news for the citizens of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) especially for those who travel often within the ECOWAS regions.
Mrs Ursula Owusu has announced that from the upcoming January 2020, there would be no roaming charges over communication within the ECOWAS regions. The roaming charges were initiated a few years before which caused major anger in the people of the respective regions. However, now the roaming charges have been eliminated under the much-hyped ‘ECOWAS Roaming Initiative’ which would be implemented completely after the completion of 2019.
While speaking exclusively about the no roaming charged, the Communications Minister said, “From January 1, 2020, all ECOWAS citizens travelling within the region will experience no roaming tariffs but will roam at local rates. The current dispensation records minimal volumes of traffic-Voice, SMS and Data – and this brings in minimum tax revenue to the government. Implementation of the ECOWAS Roaming Initiative will enhance our revenue generation in the ECOWAS corridor similar to that experienced in other free-roaming zones and remove barriers to communication for subscribers.”
