Nana Akufo-Addo has revealed that the Ministry of Aviation is working on the plan of Aviation-Driven Developments to use the industry for socio-economic transformation after Kotoka International Airport (KIA) has been placed on top position in West Africa and rated 4th best in overall Africa by Airport Council International latest rankings.
The rating of the first quarter of 2019 also placed KIA in the sixth position with regards to improvement from 2018. Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo revealed the progress during the yearly general assembly of the Airport Council. He further said that efforts are being made to develop Ghana’s aviation industry.
He further said that the government of Ghana will strictly work to standardized KIA. We want to make it preferable in the world. In recent years, the stable socio-political and economic atmosphere has flourished the aviation industry in Ghana. The government of Ghana has eased the regulatory framework to make the industry functional. Additionally, 17.5% VAT has obliterated on domestic airfares that doubled the domestic passenger traffic.
President further said September 2019 statistics show that figures of the international passengers have risen to 6.7% than last year. Airfreight movement also saw growth of 5.9% as 30 functional airlines in the country linking 30 different places.
