Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has said that the re-registration exercise of all mobile SIM cards will start from January 2020 and will continue till 30th June. It is the government’s new initiative to clean the existing registration system.
SIM card registration process in Ghana begun in 2010 after the National Communication Authority issued a directive. The registration will be necessary for both existing and new subscribers of SIM cards belonging from different telecom operators. Communications Minister revealed that the current SIM card registration process has insufficiencies that don’t fulfill the purpose behind the SIM registration.
She further informed that users will have 6 months deadline to get their mobile SIM cards re-register. However, those who will not comply with the deadline will have their SIMs deactivated. She requested all citizens to cooperate and registered on time when exercise will start in 2020.
