A mosque shooting in northern Burkina Faso has left at least 16 people dead after Gunmen storm the place and opened fire on worshippers. The deadly assault took place in the Grand Mosque located in Salmossi village in the Oudalan region when people were praying inside.
According to a source, 13 people died at the spot while 3 others lost their lives in the hospital. 7 worshippers also injured in mosque shooting whereas two of them sustained critical injuries. Many locals fled away from the village, near the Mali border, after the attack. The climate of fear and panic has created on the place in spite of military reinforcements.
From the past few years, many people have reportedly murdered in the area by jihadist groups. However, no groups claimed the responsibility of the recent attack. Jihadist assaults started in 2015 and lead to the closure of thousands of schools in Burkina Faso. UN Refugee Agency reported that up to a quarter of a million people have to relocate from their homes in the past 3 months. More than 1,000 people filled the streets of capital Ouagadougou to protest against the violence. The protesters also marched against the presence of foreign military services.
