Till now, Kurdish-led forces have served as an important US supporter in Syria to overthrow Islamic State (IS) group. However, Turkey considers them a terrorist organization and accused them of terrorist activities in its country. The US U-turn has surprised the Kurdish-led group who stated the change as ‘stab in the back’.
The decision follows a White House announcement according to which US troops are retreating from Syria amid Turkish operation against Kurds. Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed that we want to make the border a harmless area for refugees of Syria, living in our country. To achieve the goal, we have to fight with Kurdish forces on the border.
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham has condemned the decision as a catastrophe in the making. He also informed that he will introduce a Senate resolution against it for the reversal of the decision. According to the White House statement, US armed forces will not interfere or back the operation in northern Syria.
