John Dramani Mahama, former president of Ghana has appealed the members of his party National Democratic Congress to stop the attack and violence on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Otumfuo Osei has been under the attacks by the members of the National Democratic Congress after he gave the statement in the United Nations Peace Forum New York, the United States that he had to influence the elections of 2016 so that Mahama can win the elections again and to prevent the Akufo Addo from becoming president.
Julius Debrah the former chief of the staff during the Mahama government has said that President Mahama never wanted and demanded the support from anyone to keep in the power.
He also stated that the statement of the Otumfuo Osei is not more than a bunch of lies and Mahama never asked to him to influence the elections of 2016.
On the other hand, the Mahama in a social media post has said that the statement issued by his chief of staff is was not to disperses the efforts made by the Otumfuo Osei bit to put more light n the events that were happened during the elections of 2016.
Below is the full statement which was posted by the John Mahama on his Facebook Page ;
“The recent statement from my office was meant to shed more light on the events surrounding the 2016 poll and not to disparage Otumfuo’s efforts at promoting national peace and unity. I, therefore, find the language and commentary in the ensuing public discourse very disturbing.
Clearly Mr. Julius Debrah’s statement was intended to simply clarify that I never had the slightest intention of seeking to hang on to power unconstitutionally, as some media houses sought to infer from Otumfuo’s speech at the UN.
I have profound respect for Otumfuo and Asanteman and will not allow this issue to mar our long-standing cordial relationship. On Otumfuo’s return home, we will take the necessary steps to bring closure to this matter. In the meantime, I urge the general public and party members not to be baited into non-constructive flogging of this issue.”
