The Precious Talent Top School’s classroom building collapsed minutes after the start of the school day in Nairobi, Kenya as a result at least 7 children reportedly killed. Dozens more also injured in the deadly incident which takes place before 07:00 local time.
Emergency services rushed towards the scene but the presence of a large crowd made it difficult for them to reach inside the school. The injured have shifted to hospital but two of them are in critical condition.
Education Secretary George Magoha briefed journalist that we have lost seven precious lives after the wooden structure of the school fell. He also confirmed that 64 people sustained injuries of various degrees. The two-storey structure of the school was built using metal sheets and wood. A concrete slab placed to separate the two two-storey structure.
Meanwhile, Director of School Moses Ndirangu alleged the structure of a nearby sewer for weakening the foundations of the building. Some of the injured children shifted to the Kenyatta National Hospital by local Red Cross. Local politician John Kiarie said that many children trapped inside the wreckage of the collapsed building.
Locals rushed towards to scene to rescue their children inside the rubble and complained about slow emergency services. The private school provides education facilities to more than 800 pupils. Locals mostly prefer private schools for their children education for being a superior standard.
