The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has publicized the economic figures of August which shows that the transport sector experienced high inflation rate of 10.2%. The Statistician, Professor Samuel Kobina Annim made this known during a press conference in the capital city on 18th September 2019.
He further detailed that the year-on-year inflation rate of the non-food group remains 7.4% in August. Meanwhile, Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco and Narcotics inflation rate recorded 12.9%. The inflation rate of transport sector noted 10.2% while it remains 9.9% in housing, electricity, water, gas and other energies.
However, the overall national inflation rate has declined to 7.8 % in August. 8.2% inflation rate recorded on food and non-alcoholic beverages, 25.2% on fruits and 10.6% on cereals products. Sugar, confectionery & deserts saw 9.0% inflation whereas ready-made food and other food items experience 8.3% price rise. Professor Samuel Kobina Annim reported that inflation rate fluctuated from 3.9% to 12.4% for Eastern Region and Greater Accra Region respectively.
