The Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen has recently called upon the private sector of Ghana to help the ministry in fighting the rapidly growing unemployment situation. The minister has expressed the fact that it’s only private sector which can actually bring change by providing the employment opportunities to the Ghanaians.
Alan Kyerematen also supported his claim by stating the facts, as he revealed that according to data from the Institute of Statistics, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) of the University of Ghana, only 10% of the graduates get settled by getting the jobs after completing their studies. However, there are above 300,000 students that get graduated every year.
He said, “If you add those graduating from tertiary institutions to those from second-cycle institutions and you do an accumulation of the numbers, you will realize that we have a major security problem on our hands. Today, the most critical development challenge confronting us as a nation has to do with unemployment. It does not matter which government is in power; we must come out with a strategic approach to deal with unemployment”.
