President Nana Akufo-Addo has expressed hope that this year rice yield will be greater than 2018 production of the crop. With the increase in production, the rice importation will reduce to 50% in 2019.
President said that effective execution of Planting for Food and Jobs project which supported 1 million smallholder farmers, improved the production. He made these remarks at the commissioning of the OmniFert Fertilizer Factory. Moreover, he also called the formation of a buoyant agricultural sector, his government aim to boost Ghana’s economy.
Akufo-Addo said that Ghana has exported food to other countries after a long time and we have plans to decline rice exports minimum at 50%. All these achievements clearly indicate that rice production will be larger than in 2018. He stated that use of right amounts of fertilizer multiplied crop production.
President also praised the OmniFert role for offering the right blends of fertilizers to farmers based on their crops and soil types. He said that organizations like OmniFert can make our country the agricultural hub in western part of Africa. President Akufo-Addo also urged private sector to collaborate with government to transform Ghana Beyond Aid.
