The death toll has risen to 25 after a fire engulfed a boat and destroyed it off Santa Cruz Island, California. US Coast Guard reported that they have rescued 5 crew members while put 9 others into the missing list.
The fire has hit the boat on Monday at about 90 miles in the western part of Los Angeles. Consequently, the commercial diving boat, which was carrying 39 people, inundated with water. Coast Guard services received an emergency call at 10:30 GMT that blazes have engulfed a boat and some passengers may present below deck. The people jumped from the boat before the rescue vessel reached them.
The owner of the rescue vessel Grape Escape revealed that fire has surrounded the boat from stem to stern. Bob Hansen called it horrendous as he saw the fire coming from holes of the boat. According to Captain Rochester, the boat fully meets with the requirements of safety regulations. The boat, dubbed as the Conception submerged at the depth of 64ft near the coast of Santa Cruz Island.
