President Hassan Rouhani has said that stalled US-Iran talks can only be unlocked if the United States lifts the imposed sanctions against the country. According to him, it is the first step for having a dialogue between both countries and without it is not possible to negotiate.
His statement follows President Donald Trump offer for a meeting. The US-Iran conflict has accelerated after US withdrawal from 2015 nuclear deal. The United States left the deal limiting nuclear activities of Tehran and re-imposed sanctions. The move hit hard Iranian economy as its oil exports lowered down, inflation rate intensified and the currency devalued.
In retaliation to US efforts to make oil exports to zero, Iran breaches some commitments of the nuclear deal. It also warned that it will go further if other partners of the nuclear deal did nothing to protect it from harsh sanctions. Iran also remained highlighted for attacking and monopolizing international shipping in the Gulf.
French President Emmanuel Macron stated during the G7 meeting in France that he had talked with Mr. Rouhani about the possibility of his meeting with Trump. Mr. Trump said that he want to President Rouhani if he would like to straighten out their situation which has hurt them badly. Meanwhile, Iran and US leaders will attend the UN General Assembly next month.
