President Jair Bolsonaro has rejected the G7 offer of sending $22m funds to help in overcoming the Amazon fires amid insult from French President Emmanuel Macron. He demanded that Emmanuel Macron must apologize him for accusing him as a liar then he will think to accept the offer.
Earlier, Mr. Macron described Mr. Bolsonaro over his claims of fighting climate change. Leaders from top industrial powers at G7 agreed to provide $22m aid to Brazil to overcome the number of fires burning mostly in Amazon. Brazilian ministers also rejected the G7 money offer and blamed them for their effort to take control of the Amazon.
Mr. Macron revealed at G7 summit that the Brazilian President has made a false statement before him during the G20 summit in Japan about making efforts to overcome climate change. Mr. Bolsonaro has failed to respect biodiversity and his climate commitments. Mr. Macron also warned that he will not ratify trade agreement with the region until Brazil will not accelerate its efforts to control the fires.
In response to all allegations, Mr. Bolsonaro said that French President should be liable for the insult he made by calling me a liar. He demanded his French counterpart to withdraw from his words first then we will talk on Amazon issue. Mr. Bolsonaro’s Chief of Staff also ridiculed France aid offer by mentioning Notre-Dame cathedral fire in April. He said that Mr. Macron cannot control the expected fire at the world’s heritage site and giving us lesson of how to control fire in our country.
