Amazon rainforests are considered lungs of the earth and also big fighters against global warming and this vessel of oxygen is burning with an alarming rate which never recorded before. According to the National Institute for Space Research, more than 74000 fires have been reported to the date.
Scientists are claiming that these fires are not natural. They called deforestation a major cause of these wildfires. Meanwhile, environmentalists have blamed President Jair Bolsonare‘s policies, a big threat to forests. Balsonarehas put blame on NGO’s with his statement that data regarding the increase in fires ratio is not correct. He assured to take notice by himself if the situation proves alarming.
Historical data predicts that Amazon rainforests environment cannot catch fires easily as these forests maintain climatic conditions naturally. There is another argument from researchers that climate change is the main cause of unusual fires. Fluctuations in rainfall may cause the drought conditions that drive the fires. Anthropogenic activities like mining, farming, and drilling are accelerating the situation.
Natives are the major culprits for Amazon fires as they clearing land and put fires deliberately and illegally. Moreover, agricultural activity has expanded towards forests and chances of unusual wildfires have increased. If deforestation continues in Brazil by the current rate Brazil will be without trees till 2030.
There is a need to protect Amazon‘s rainforests for the sake of global climate management. On the other hand world environmentalists, researchers and politicians should gather to assist Brazil developmental process for which they are implementing policies to utilize forests land.
