The seized Iranian supertanker, Grace 1, has eventually left the Gibraltar coast and set sails towards an unknown destination. Gibraltar has incarcerated the ship on accusations of transferring the fuel to a Syrian refinery which came under EU sanctions.
The regional conflict further soured after Iran retaliate the move and captured a foreign tanker. The United States pressed the United Kingdom to keep the tanker and its oil into its custody.
However, a Gibraltar judge issued orders of Grace 1 release which put the US on fire. The decision was made after Tehran assurance that it will not transfer fuel to Syrian refinery. The United States tried hard and made pleas to reinstate the detention but all efforts go in vain.
Gibraltar dismissed the US plea by saying that the EU didn’t see the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization. United States Justice Department has also ordered the warrant of tanker re-seizure.
The supertanker, now dubbed as Adrian Darya-1, has now finally started its journey towards the east into the Mediterranean and left the Gibraltar coast. Tehran ambassador to the UK reported that two professional engineering teams also sent to Gibraltar.
