Typhoon Lekima made landfall in China with strong winds and heavy downpour which triggered mass evacuation and death toll also reached to 28. Around 20 people are still missing while around five million residents of Zhejiang province also affected. The authorities have shifted up to one million people to safer zones.
The torrential downpour caused landslide in Wenzhou city where most of the deaths reported. Emergency crews and rescue teams are struggling to rescue the stranded motorists from inundations and survivors from the wreckage of collapsed buildings.
All crops and more than 34,000 houses destroyed in Zhejiang province by the typhoon. Lekima caused 14.57 billion yuan economic loss in China.
Lekima now almost near to hit Shanghai and its 250,000 residents safely moved. With the arrival of the typhoon, 3,200 flights have suspended in Shanghai, Beijing and other areas.
It is 9th typhoon of 2019 and also the strongest one in recent years. Typhoon Lekima earlier struck Taiwan and left behind some injured people and destroyed infrastructure.
