England will have to dominate right from the word go, without giving Australia much of a space to free their arms in the second Ashes Test, which is due to begin on the 14th of this month at Lords.
England lost to Australia after making a very strong start to the match. Australia was 128 for 8 in their first innings and very few could have predicted the English loss by a margin of 251 runs, from thereon, but England collapsed in the second phase of the game.
The Ashes 2019
Steven Smith was the star of the show for Australia; he scored a ton in each of the innings and was a standout figure and real difference between the two sides. England didn’t have that sort of an impetus. There are individuals in Root and Roy, who can turn the match single-handedly in their favor, but not in the befitting manner or when it is most required. Forget out the World Cup victory and the individual of Roy and Bairstow. Test match is a different ball game altogether, and the fault lines of the English side were exposed right at the onset of the series.
A team effort is required both with the ball and win the bat, an all-new fighting spirit, is essential and crucial to bring the tempo down and to turn it in their favor. The shift in momentum is not impossible by any means, England has done this in the past, in the 2005 Ashes, where they were the eventual winners after losing their first test. Can they do it again is a big question, the home crowd and home conditions could complement their fighting spirit.
