More than 17 people were injured in a South Korean night club collapse, including a few of the Fina players, who are in South Korea to participate in the world swimming saga.
A balcony and a staircase suddenly collapsed and fell on to more than 370 people, who were there in the club, enjoying the party. The Fina swimmers were from US, New Zealand, Holland, Italy and the Central American Brazil.
South Korea nightclub crash
Two South Koreans, lost their lives in the incident, though they were not a part of the championship. Several water polo players were present at the club during the nightmare. A female water polo player and a male driver are reported to incur minor injuries.
The head of the US water polo, called the incident as an awful one. Players from both men and women team were enjoying the victory at the world championship, when the initial jerk supplanted fear and agony, added Christopher Ramsay.
We deeply condole and our hearts are with the families of the deceased, further added Christopher Ramsay.
New Zealand’s men’s water polo captain explained the incident as a tragic one, when the collapse resulted in a stampede sort of a situation; people were rushing out for shelter.
Fina also released an official statement in which they regretted the tragedy and sent best wishes to the victims.
Fina swimming championship is underway in South Korea and is due to end on Sunday.
