Australia’s Shayna Jack was prohibited from participating in the world swimming championship as she was tested positive for doping. She initially made excuses pertaining to personal family grounds for not participating in the ongoing event in South Korea, but now it has been revealed that the causes were different and very related to drug or substance abuse.
She said in a recent statement, that I cannot describe the pain and agony for not being able to make it through to the grand event. I have to quit due to presence of some unwanted and precarious substance in my system. I never intentionally took any such illegal material. I could not have afforded to bring my career to an end by taking any illegal drugs. The investigations are on and the real side of the picture shall be revealed soon.
Swimming Australia has confirmed the validity of the incident. Shayna was tested positive during a routine test. She was barred from participating.
The 20 year old was expected to perform at the event with all zeal and zest, and was expected to win gold. But the untimely interception, and rightly so, broke through all castles of glorious and out the blue performance by Shayna Jack.
Previously, Horton, an Australian swimmer, refused to share podium with Chinese Sun Yang, on account of doping charges. Horton won a Silver medal and stood behind Sun Yang, in pursuit of registering a protest. The event sparked a controversy as FINA issued an official warning to Horton for protesting in an indecent way.
