Dan Kwaku Yeboah, the spokesman of the Normalization Committee, explained the expenditures of AFCON 2019. He claimed that $4.5 million was the smallest ever budget in the history of AFCON. He said that it looks a great amount but if we have a look at all the activities of AFCON, this money is not a huge amount. A lot of money was spent on the pre- camping in Dubai.
He said that people should be realistic. They have a right to talk about the money but they should think about it. A huge amount was spent in Dubai on internal transport and it was paid from the budget of AFCON 2019. CAF was supposed to arrange the transport but it was also arranged by the state.
While the Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah, said in Parliament that the total amount of $4, 564, 532,00 was spent on the tournament. The whole amount was used to manage the players, the technical team, the Ghana League Clubs Association and the Members of the Parliament Select Committee on Youth and Supports and Culture. The total expenditure was more than the given amount.
A lot of money was also spent on the journalists and the supporters of Ghana. So it was the smallest budget in the history of AFCON. But the people are making simple mathematics and considering it a huge amount which is absolutely wrong. It was a mega event and required a huge amount of money. So $4.5 million is not a huge or enough amount for AFCON 2019.
