The UK has threatened Iran of ‘serious consequences’ over British-flagged tanker seizure while Pentagon has deployed troops at Saudi Arabia to end Iran’s monopoly in the Gulf.
The UK claimed that Iran’s Iranian Revolutionary Guard took the ship, Stena Impero, into their custody in the Strait of Hormuz. Earlier, Iran forces held a fuel-smuggling ship in the Gulf on charges of violation of international maritime rules. On the same day, British tanker, which was traveling on the same route, lost its contact with the owner company.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arab has allowed the US to deploy troops on its land amid threats by Iran in the region. Pentagon forced to take the move to ensure regional security and stability which is under threat due to Iran’s monopoly over shipping lanes in the Gulf. The United States will deliberately deploy its defense system and troop at Prince Sultan Base.
British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt has notified Iran to quickly resolve the situation otherwise be ready for serious outcomes. Iranian forces also surrounded another British-owned tanker, MV Mesdar, but they failed to seize it. Stena Impero’s owner company, Stena Bulk revealed that the vessel was completely following navigation and international rules when detained in international waters.
Mr. Hunt also called the Iranian move unacceptable and urged on the need to maintain freedom of navigation in international waters. He rejected the military option as a solution but stressed on the diplomatic way to resolve the issue. Labor Leader, Jeremy Corbyn demanded the immediate release of the oil tanker and its crew.
