Several people including a famous journalist Hodan Naleyah and multiple foreigners reportedly died in southern Somalia’s hotel attack. The attack occurred after a suicide bomber entered into Asasey hotel in Kismayo along with his vehicle full of explosives.
Meanwhile, gunmen attacked the building and left behind the dead bodies of 43 years old journalist and her husband Farid. Authorities have also confirmed that a local political figure, 3 Kenyans, 3 Tanzanians, 2 Americans and one British national, were also among those killed in the attack.
At the time of the attack, local politicians & clan elders were assembled in the hotel to discuss coming polls. According to witnesses, the sound of a huge blast and arrival of armed men created chaos at the scene.
Authorities finally regain control of the situation after 12 hours. Regional President of southern Somalia, Ahmed Mohamed, revealed the death toll of the victims as 26 while up to 50 people sustained injuries. Police detained one attacker while three gunmen killed in the raid.
