It seems like a series of oil tankers war has begun in the Gulf region and in latest episode, Iranian boats attempt to intercept a British oil tanker has remained fruitless.
A spokesperson detailed that Royal Navy ship came in between Iranian vessels and British Heritage and verbally warned Iranian forces to not seize the tanker. He also called Iran’s move against international law. Earlier, Tehran has warned the UK to be ready for retaliation after Gibraltar seizure incident. However, Tehran has repudiated claims of attempted seizure.
According to sources, IRGC linked boats moved towards British Heritage tanker and also attempted to stop it. At that time, British Heritage was approaching towards Strait of Hormuz from the Gulf. British frigate, HMS Montrose, was with the tanker near the Abu Musa Island when Iranian boats harassed the tanker.
A representative from the UK government criticized Iran for not abiding international law and for triggering tankers war. Three Iranian boats have tried to stop the way of a commercial vessel leaving behind international law and regulation. Meanwhile, IRGC’s Navy has rejected the US sources claims of attempting to seize oil tanker. Foreign Minister Mohammad Zarif has said that the United Kingdom just wanted to create tensions with the incident and called the claims as valueless.
