Washington has declared to establish a multinational military coalition to be deployed in waters around Iran and Yemen to protect the oil trade route and US military bases. Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US military explained that they want the freedom of navigation in the area. Earlier, the United States insisted on Iranian involvement on six oil tankers attack.
According to Gen Dunford, the United States has urged its allies to support the plans of the joint military coalition and we will deliver command ships, surveillance efforts, and other material. Meanwhile, other countries will have to provide patrolling boats, commercial ships and will have to support the initiative.
Straits of Hormuz & Bab al-Mandab have strategic importance to access the Indian Ocean, Gulf, and the Red Sea. Straits of Hormuz join the Indian Ocean and Gulf and tankers reach Europe through Red Sea by crossing Bab al-Mandab.
Gen Dunford detailed that the initiative depended on willing contributor number. The United States naval forces are already carrying out maritime security and anti-piracy tasks in the area. The US 5th Fleet Navy headquarters and naval base of UK are located in Bahrain. The United Kingdom is also continuously monitoring the security condition of the region and wants to keep freedom of navigation in the region.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani alleged the United Kingdom for developing the insecurity in the region. His statement follows the seizure of an Iranian oil tanker in Gibraltar last week. On the other hand, Iran ambassador to the United Nations has urged Europeans to speed up efforts to compensate it from the economic collapse by US sanctions. He also warned to continue to exceed the uranium enrichment limits for nuclear fuel generation.
