Ghana and Tunisia will meet in the knockout round of the current African Cup of Nations on Monday. The Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah will work hard so they can maintain their record against Tunisia. The team that wants to end decades of dominance of black stars.
The North African needs to secure its position in AFCON 2019 quarterfinals. The match which is going to be held at Ismailia Stadium will be the eighth AFCON clash between the two countries.
Ghana’s Serbian mentor Goran Stevanovic drove a group of Asamoah Gyan, Andre Ayew, Jordan Kwadwo Asamoah and John Boye to beat Tunisia 2-1 in the AFCON 2012 quarterfinals seven years ago. Jonathan Mensah was part of the team as the central defender.
The nation’s first triumph over Tunisia occurred at AFCON in 1965, when the Black Stars who were trained by the unbelievable Charles Kumi Gyamfi, drew 3-2 and Ghana vanquished the Tunisians 1-0 in the elimination round four years.
Tunisia defeated the black stars only in non-competitive games. They won in the year 1985, 1999 and in 2006 with the same score 2: 0. These were international friendly matches.
Tunisians still chasing their first victory over the multiple time’s champions. It will be a great task for Tunisia coach Alain to find the winning formula for his team whose best AFCON result against Ghana is a 1-1 draw at the 1963 tournament in Accra.
