Mohamed Salah scored in two consecutive games with Ahmed Elmohamady’s support yet again as Egypt goes to the round of 16 with 9 out of 9 points.
Defying the critics of the home team’s first game, Salah showed his charm in the next two consecutive matches leading his side to the knockout round. Egypt faced Uganda yesterday night for the chance for either of the two teams to end up on top of the group; but before the first half ended, Egypt had already scored two goals. Thanks to Salah and Elmohamady, Egypt defeated Uganda by 2-0 to end up with a perfect record.
In the post-match interview, Elmohamady said:
“Nine points out of three games is something Egypt is used to – the difficult part is what comes next.
“As of tomorrow, we will start to prepare; regardless of the team, we will meet in the last 16.”
“We scored five goals in three matches and kept three clean sheets. For me, these are good numbers.”
Egypt has come so far in the league by defeating their first three opponents with a clean sheet, but will they be able to keep this momentum going their way or will they fall prey to one of the upcoming challenges? Keep tuned in to AFCON 2019 to find out.
