England outplayed India at Birmingham to regain the fourth slot on the points table. England won the toss and decided to bat. English openers lead from the front and thrashed Indian bowling on all sides of the ground. 337 was always going to be tough and India eventually lost by 31 runs.
Jonny Bairstow was the star of the match, he scores 111 runs at the top of the order. Ben Stokes contributed with an important 79 runs to pave the way to victory. The hosts dominated the first part of the innings. Indian bowling was literally torn into pieces.
Indian openers made a very slow start. Rohit Sharma’s century went in vain. The run rate of over 10 in the last ten overs was always going to be a daunting task. And even the experience of Dhoni couldn’t lead the way to victory.
England beat India
It was a must game win for the English side. As they were down and out in their last two outings, they were beaten by Australia and Sri Lanka. The pressure was building up as the hosts started the tournament as favorites. But collapsed right at the very crucial juncture, and went on to beat the unbeaten Indians to retain the fourth slot.
Top four teams will qualify for the semi-finals. England, Bangladesh, and Pakistan are all striving for a place in the knock-outs. Pakistan vs Bangladesh is going to be a crucial game as it will decide the fate of both the teams. England will take on New Zealand on the 3rd of July. New Zealand is at 3rd slot with 11 points. This game is going to strengthen their position in case of a win.
