Pakistan stunned New Zealand at Birmingham in match 33 of the ICC Cricket World Cup. The leading side in the event was outplayed by Pakistan. Pakistan won the match to secure two points and have kept their hopes alive to make it into the semi-finals.
Kane Williamson won the toss and decided to bat at Edgbaston, Birmingham. New Zealand was supposed to dominate as they were playing flawless cricket and were unbeaten in the event so far, but the Pakistani pace attack won laurels for them and for their side by piercing through the batting line-up of the Kiwis.

James Nisham and Collin de Grandhomme were involved in a healthy partnership of 132 runs late in the innings which helped the Kiwi’s reach reasonable total of 237 in their fifty overs. But 237 didn’t prove enough and Pakistan achieved the target with six wickets in hands and with five balls to spare.
Babar Azam dominated the scenes at Birmingham and scored a brilliant century. He remained not out and was awarded the man of the match award. Haris Sohail carried on the momentum from his previous performance against South Africa. He scored 64 runs before he got run out in the second last over of the match.
The round-robin format has sparked so much of energy into the event. As many as 7 teams are in the run for making it into the semi-finals. The last stage of the first round has become more interesting as teams will try their heart out in order to remain a contender for the knock-outs.
