Egypt outplayed DR Congo to register their second win in the AFCON 2019. Ahmad Elmohamady and Muhammad Salah scored one goal each to secure three points and the number one slot on the points table.
Egypt is leading the group A with six points, followed by Uganda which has earned four points. Egypt defeated Zimbabwe in the opening match of the event. Today they ran over their opponents to carry on the winning streak.
The Cairo International stadium was jam-packed with fans chanting and supporting the host nation. There were a few DR Congo fans as well. But they failed to inspire their team to win over their rivals.
Muhammad Salah proved his worth against DR Congo
The match statistics show that the DR Congo competed well. DR Congo retained possession of the ball for nearly 43 minutes of the game. They won 5 corners to three by the Egyptians. The match was very much on, but unfortunately DR Congo didn’t possess the individual brilliance of Muhammad Salah.
They lacked clinical finishers and this was the only difference as far as the ground performance is concerned. Both the teams were neck to neck in all the parameters, except for the ability to put the ball behind the bars.
Egypt will take on Uganda on Monday whereas DR Congo will fight for glory against Zimbabwe.
The AFCON was scheduled in the months of March-April till 2006. The 2008 edition of the cup was held in June. And since then it is held in June-July, to avoid a clash with many of the European leagues.
