Pakistan beat South Africa in an important world cup encounter, at Lords. Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat. It was a do-or-die match for both the teams. The loser would be out from the quest for the World Cup trophy.
Pakistani openers laid a solid foundation. Both Fakhar Zaman and Imam Ul Haq score 44 runs each. The pitch was supportive in the favor of batsman. Haris Sohail outshined and scored 89 runs to win the match for Pakistan. Haris made his debut in the World Cups. He replaced Shoaib Malik in the late middle-order. He scored runs quickly and when it was most required for Pakistan. Babar Azam scored a half century, the second for him in this competition. Pakistan scored 307 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their fifty overs.
Pakistan dominated the South Africans
The task would have not been easy for South Africa, primarily because of their poor show in the event so far. They were not able to dominate either with the ball or with the bat. But this was their last opportunity to keep their hopes alive in the event. So the fans could have anticipated a much better performance. But the poor run continued for South Africa and they lost by 89 runs.
Pakistan can now sniff a chance for making into the semi-finals, only after winning their remaining three games. South Africa can consider them unlucky as they narrowly escaped a couple of wins in previous games. But they did not perform as per their capacity. They looked down and out right from the word go when they lost to England in the opening match of the event. They never recovered and carried on the momentum of losing games.
Bangladesh will take on Afghanistan at Rose Bowl Cricket Ground at Southampton.
