Mr. Imamoglu called his victory a beginning of a new era for the city with the addition of justice, equality and love. He also assured for his full cooperation to the president. Mr. Imamoglu received 54% of 99% casting votes while his rival AKP candidate and ex-PM Binali Yildirim got 45% votes. 49 years old Imamoglu has been working as Beylikduzu district mayor. AKP’s Binali Yildirim has served as prime minister from 2016 to 2018 after which Turkey has emerged as presidential democracy.
Earlier in March, results canceled over ruling party allegations about vote stealing and unofficial use of ballot box. On the bases of these accusations, a demand made to election board for a re-run of the vote.
