Bangladesh chased down a second highest total of world cup history to beat the West Indians at Taunton. Bangladesh won the toss and put West Indies to bat first. West Indies lost Chris Gayle right at the very beginning. But the middle order steadied the ship and West Indies were able to put a grand total of 321 on the scoreboard.
Hope, Lewis, and Hetmyer scored half-centuries for the West Indies. Hope lost his wicket when he was just four runs short of a ton. The country ground at Taunton has relatively smaller boundaries on either side of the wicket and the wicket was in favor of batting. But still, 321 was a grand total. And chasing it down would have required some doing.
Debutant Liton Das played a very crucial knock of 94 which set the tone for the Bangladeshi middle order. Shakib ul Hassan carried on the momentum and scored a beautifully crafted century to record a sensational victory for Bangladesh. Both Shakib and Das were involved in a 189 run partnership right in the middle of Bangladeshi innings.
Shakib Ul Hassan
Liton has credited Shakib for supporting and encouraging him all through the innings. The debutant said that he was under pressure at the start of his innings but gathered momentum and confidence with time.
Shakib Ul Hassan has become the highest run scorer in this World Cup event so far with 384 runs. Ireland successfully chased down 329 runs against England in 2011. Bangladesh has tarnished the West Indians by pulling off a stunner.
Bangladesh will take on mighty Australians on 20th of this month at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
