At the AFCON 2019, Namibia is not expected to win and are drawn in Group D before the tournament.
When the AFCON will commence on Friday in Egypt, the Brave Warriors will face Ivory Coast and Morocco, the past winners in South Africa. The only nation in the group to win the prize is Brave Warriors.
Coach Ricardo Mannetti is optimistic about his side chances in the contest as the group has been made through the tightest qualifying group to book place in the finals. The ex-midfielder believes that their billing underdogs will be proved beneficial for them.
Mannetti told the CAF that we used to be the competitors having a hope to win and we are habitual of this situation. It’s a perfect draw for us. The qualification day was quite emotional as we can be hired or fired. But it was amazing to qualify. We are here to play and to win.
Overcoming a strong challenge from Mozambique and Zambia, Namibia finished second behind Guinea-Bissau in Group K in the qualifiers with just two points separating first from the last place in the group.
On the 3rd day of competition before the settlement with South Africa on 28 June, they started a campaign against Morocco. According to the new setup of competition, having 24 members, if they were to finish third in the group, they do stand a chance of progressing through to the next round.
