Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard has revealed that the US will again impose tariffs on Mexico if troop deployments on southern borders failed to solve migrants issue. He admitted that they have only 45 days ultimatum to lessen the number of US-bound migrants.
The United States is also expecting Mexico to manage the asylum claims process in its country. Mr. Marcelo Ebrard made these views about the US- Mexico deal while speaking to a press conference. Earlier, US President Donald Trump called a part of the documented deal very important in favor of the United States.
Mr. Trump said that that part of the deal needs the approval of Mexico’s legislative body but if not approved then the US will restore the tariffs. Mr. Marcelo Ebrard called the US-Mexico trade deal, an important achievement of the talks. He said that if the strategy to solve migrants issue didn’t work then we will go for additional measures.
Mr. Ebrard said that United States is expecting Mexico to make its border a zero migrant zone and that is impossible. Mr. Trump also revealed that Mexico will soon buy large agricultural products from the United States. However, Mr. Ebrard said that Mr. Trump probably referring it to expected growth in trade.
Mexico is appointing National Guard personnel to the southern border to stop migrants. The efforts will be reconsidered in July and on failure, discussions will start with neighboring countries who served as a transit point for migrants.
