Hong Kong roads filled with hundreds of thousands of people who protested against the controversial extradition bill, biggest protest since 1997.
The critics have fears that a new extradition bill will allow China to target political opponents in their country. According to the extradition bill, suspected criminals will have to face their trial in China. Leader Carrie Lam has pressure to pass amendments before next month. However, critics see it as the destruction of judicial independence of the city.
Organizers of the march confirmed the presence of one million protesters in the march while police counted the figure as 240,000 protesters. People from all norms of life participated in the march from businesspeople to lawyers to students. All the protesters were dressed in white and they peacefully march on roads.
A professor called the bill as an end game, evil law and matter of life and death. A teenage student said that the extradition bill will bring bad effects on Hong Kong’s judicial system and the international finance market.
