A boat and large vessel collision in Danube River lead to the boat capsize consequently, at least 7 South Koreans reported dead in Budapest, Hungary. According to officials, twenty-one tourists are still missing after the boat capsize which happened at about 19:00 GMT.
The tour boat was carrying 30 tourists from South Korea, 3 tour guides and two local crew members when it met with a tragedy. Rescue teams have rescued 7 people and a search for the missing still continued in the river. Massive rainfall hit the Danube River which further triggered strong currents. This situation has lowered the chances of more survivals. Meanwhile, police services have launched a criminal investigation about boat incident.
According to officials, the boat dubbed as Hableany overturned close to the parliament building in Budapest. The boat was consisted of two decks and can carry forty-five tourists at a time on sightseeing tours. The CCTV footage of the incident showed the presence of another large vessel to which the boat collided near Margit Bridge before sinking.
A police spokesperson, Adrian Pal revealed that the boat had overturned within seven seconds after hitting with the vessel. The wreckage of the boat has been found at the site. Meanwhile, the head of the Hungarian National Shipping Association has described the incident ‘a human error’. South Korean government has confirmed the death toll and further revealed that it will send officials to Hungary.
