President of the United States, Donald Trump has said that he will fully support possible Pyongyang-Tokyo talks. Mr. Trump said that he will consider it a chance to talk frankly about North Korea’s nuclear program and Tokyo’s abductees.
US president hopes that proposed meeting will bring ‘good things’ and further said that he doesn’t bother by North’s missile tests. Nowadays, Mr. Donald Trump is on Japan’s four-day tour and the first leader to visit the Japanese Emperor Naruhito. Afterward, he met with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and discussed about trade and international issues.
The US and Japan have the same dream of denuclearizing North Korea but have diverse opinions about recent missile test by Pyongyang. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe consider recent North’s test a threat for his country security. However, Mr. Trump doesn’t worry about it and called Kim Jong-un a ‘very smart guy’. He made these remarks after Pyongyang labeled US National Security Advisor as a ‘war maniac’.
Apart from backing Pyongyang-Tokyo talks, Mr. Trump also vowed to work on bringing the abducted Japanese back from North Korea. In 1970s-1980s Pyongyang abducted thirteen citizens of Japan and only five of them released in 2002. North Korea claimed that other people had died which Tokyo never accepted. This painful history has remained a bone of contention between both countries. US president will also meet with the families of these abductees. Mr. Abe vowed to resolve the issue during his tenure.
