The chairperson of Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa issued mind shocking report. She disclosed that they annually paid a vendor almost $4 million to get the new technology, biometric verification equipment.
EC, Jean Mensa stated that these financial bills are still a query whether they were spent on election purpose or not. She further suggested that a big amount of money didn’t show any results. The money apparently is equal to zero work.
“It’s Ghanaians who should be peeved about how much they were losing under the unwise decision to part with so much money for no work done. Why should we pay $4 million as though we are acquiring new equipment? It just doesn’t make sense.”
According to her, she added that the specific biometric verification equipment was granted in the year 2011. She added that now technology has evolved and they need to improve the technology.
“Technology has evolved. The financial implication should be considering. Our decision has saved the EC $20 million. The vendor proprietorship of the software is not right, even the password for the system is not known to the IT staff of the EC. This among others informed our decision to abrogate our previous arrangement.”
