John Mahama, the ex-President of Ghana is on a tour to Malawi during the tripartite elections of the southern African country that are to be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 under the Commonwealth Observer Mission of monitoring. There he met many people, one of them being Mutharika.
Before the polls have actually started, the ex-president met four of the presidential candidates and guaranteed all the political parties that they will be observed in a transparent and an impartial way.
One of the persons Mahama met was Arthur Peter Mutharika, who is a former professor of law, aged 78 and he is challenged in Tuesday’s elections by the other candidate that include his deputy, a friend turned into an opponent, and an ex-pastor who charges him of corruption.
Mutharika has gone down due to corruption, in spite of the fact that he always showed commitment. He is proven to be involved in a bribe case of $3.9 million.
The good things about him are that he improved infrastructure and lowered down the inflation rates.
On this same big day, about 6.8 million voters are going to vote for their local councilors and MPs.
