US justice department has revealed former CIA agent, Jerry Chun Shing Lee has admitted that he has been involved in spying activities for China. Ex-CIA agent resided in Hong Kong after leaving his job in CIA when Chinese agent hired him for spying for US intelligence services.
According to prosecutors, Chinese agents offered US citizen that they will pay him for revealing the figures about US secret assets which he accepted. This move helps China to topple a network of informants and lead to the failure of US intelligence service. Almost 20 informers lost their lives or put in a prison cell from 2010 to 2012.
John Demers from US Assistant Attorney General has informed that Lee’s case is a third of its kind in a year. He further said that in previous cases every one pleaded guilty for disloyalty to country and fellows.
Lee has joined the CIA in 1994 and left it in 2007. Virginia court found him guilty for involving for spying. He has provided national defense information to help China. The court further revealed that Chinese intelligence officers offered him a handsome amount for secret information.
Afterward, Chinese agents sent hundreds of thousands of dollars in Lee’s account from 2010 to 2013 in Hong Kong. Mr. Lee collected all information about CIA actions and also US agents names with designated places. FBI agents reached Lee’s residence in Hawaii and found the document. In 2012, Lee confessed that he had met with Chinese agents but didn’t reveal the purpose. In 2013, he denied about the document and afterward said he didn’t leak the information. Police arrested him in 2018 and the court is scheduled to sentence him in August.
