Miss Zeinab Mohammed Denderi
A talented female, Miss Zeinab for the first time in the history of the head university in northern Ghana, University for Development Studies (UDS) has been chosen as a Central Students Representative Council (SRC) President in the wake of cruising past her male contenders.
Miss Zeinab Mohammed Denderi, a dimension of 300 students who were not tipped to win the challenge stunned the understudy body by defeating four different candidates and emerging successful with a 10 vote margin at the Nyankpala grounds.
‘The SRC President-Elect had an aggregate of 761 votes representing 50.3% of the all-out substantial votes cast while her contender had a sum of 751 votes, representing 49.7% of the all-out legitimate votes cast. She therefore won with a sum of 10 cast a ballot.’
The election which had before been rescheduled following an injunction by a Tamale High Court after a challenger Mr. Abubakari Abdul-Halim for the position of General Secretary Position tested the validity of the voters’ register.
The University for Development Studies, Tamale was set up in 1992 as a multi-grounds institution. It is the fifth state-funded college to be set up in Ghana. This digresses from the standard routine with regards to having colleges with central grounds and administrations.
It was made with the three northern locales of North Ghana in mind. The four separate grounds, include Wa Grounds in the Upper West Locale, Navrongo Grounds in the Upper East District, Nyankpala and Tamale Grounds in the Northern Area however the government has reported designs to make all these three self-governing.
