In a national and sub-national HIV and AIDS report from 2017, The Ghana Aids Commission has estimated that females contribute about 65% of HIV/AIDS population.
The report also adds that in 2019, the total number of HIV/AIDS population is 320,992. Among them 212,169 are females and 108,309 are males that fall between age 15 to 49.
It is estimated that the number of new females infected with HIV/AIDS is 9,731 while the number of new infected males is 5,670.
The report also states that, the death rate has reduced by 7000 among HIV/AIDS persons since 2017. Furthermore, the number of deaths for men and women stood at 4,361 and 4,419 respectively in 2019. There are very few people getting virus in Ashanti Region.
